Senate passed legistlation making it a federal crime to assault an individual based on their sexual orientation or gender ID. Obama has already pledged to sign this measure which Bush claimed he would not support during his tenure as President. This law will only be used to prosecute violence - free speech is still free speech.
This is big news people! This measure is our nation's first major piece of civil rights legislation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and will start bringing justice to those our society has oppressed for too long. No matter how you feel about the issue of homosexuality itself, you have to support legislation protecting our citizens from sensless, cruel and xenophobic violence. this bill give me hope. Hope that we can do something to help fix the brokenness (see post here).
